Public Transport Hub and Southcourt Bridge This multi million pound project, due to start on 21st January 2008, will be ongoing for a period of approximately one year and includes a new 280m long elevated walkway/cycleway over the railway and the new station Boulevard as part of the ongoing development of Aylesbury. Southcourt Bridge plays a pivotal role in easing pedestrian and cycle access from the south side of Aylesbury into the Civic and commercial heart for now and in the future. The bridge will rise from ground level at its southern end to approximately 6 metres high, as it passes over the railway lines and Station Way before merging with a new signalised crossing at its junction with Friarage Road. The bus boulevard will be a short tree lined highway constructed adjacent to the proposed Southcourt footbridge to provide convenient links between the bus and railways stations. When complete, both parts will complement each other and bring a fresh look to the area, as well as improving access for public transport, pedestrians and cyclists. |
